My Sister's
Keeper As
far back as I can remember, I have been trained for a life of community service. Be it helping my grandmother
with her duties leading several local religious and social groups, or assisting my mother with her political and community
activism; I watched and I learned. And so it was with this inheritance of a servant’s heart
& spirit, that I chose to dedicate the past three decades to continuing my family’s legacy of community service.
I’ve served my fellow citizens as a city, county, & state employee in a wide variety of
roles; and I’ve devoted a large part of my vocational & voluntary career to dealing with women & children’s
issues specifically.
I’ve volunteered my time as a labor coach for very, young women going through labor & delivery without family
members or other personal support. I’ve visited new mothers and babies in their homes to provide
postpartum checks and education as a Public Health Nurse for OB-GYN clinics. I’ve volunteered
my time to work with a charitable organization helping breast feeding mothers. I’ve worked
in newborn and premature intensive care nurseries primarily serving the poor & minority members of the community.
I’ve worked with lead poisoning testing & prevention, as well as immunization & safety programs provided
by city clinics, the county health system, and private insurance companies to facilitate area child health
care programs. I’ve served as the Project Manager for a national preventive health program for women
& children for a commercial health insurance carrier. I’ve volunteered my time to work
with mentally challenged children & young adults. I’ve marched and sat in on legislative sessions
to support efforts to keep a vital trauma center open in the heart of a poor inner city community. In
response to the nursing crisis, I worked with hospital managers and healthcare recruiters to interest & engage
more young people into healthcare careers as nurses( including some applicants from outside of our borders). The
role of women in our society and the world has changed so significantly and dramatically within my lifetime that I feel especially
blessed to be privileged to witness these historical victories. Even though the incidence of females leading
nations and international corporations continues to increase, we realize that the fight for women’s equality and parity
is far from over. Still, daughters are increasingly being regarded as more than the consolation prize
that they once represented in some cultures. So, let’s celebrate the activism, victories, and
progress of women throughout the world over the last half-century together. Let’s celebrate daughters,
and let’s celebrate life! Women + Love = Life. DOTR4
The DOTRS American Odyssey has taken them from North Carolina to Mississippi and then to Missouri. From the
nation's heartland, the Moore family roots then branched outward to all points across this great nation.
The matriarchal line of Moores, (also known as DOTRS), each successively took on the mantle of family historian &
storyteller-in-chief. Their fanciful collection of fiction has featured stories whose plots have spanned
the annals of time from creation to the endtimes; and have addressed subject matter ranging from science fiction to gritty
drama.
